The Clarion was a legendary flute used as a sign of unity between the three kingdoms of Ding Dong Dell, Al Mamoon, and Hamelin in ancient times.
History[]
Long ago, the Clarion was a legendary musical instrument that was utilized by both traveling sages and the Royal Families of Ni No Kuni to symbolize the unity between their nations. However, as time passed the relations between the nations began to sour to the point of war. The Clarion was then lost, and the secrets to its creation and existence only lay with the remaining rulers of the world along with surviving sages such as Rashaad.
After healing Esther's heart, she states that "the Clarion will ring out again, and we shall be the ones to play it!"
In order to finally confront Shadar, Oliver and his party must make it to Nevermore, which is only accessible through the treacherous Miasma Marshes. Unfortunately, the miasma prevents safe passage for travelers, as any who enter it will be lost forever. According to Esther, remembering from a story from her father, the mist which permeates the area is so dark to the point where light itself cannot penetrate it, and the only thing able to do so would be the call of the Clarion.
To make the Clarion, the party must travel to Al Mamoon to request the Holy Wood from the Cowlipha. Acknowledging their request, the Cowlipha sends Abull to retrieve it for the party, and the next step on their journey requires revisiting Ding Dong Dell for King Tom's assistance. However, on the way to the palace, the Holy Wood is stolen from the party by a mouse named Pip and sold to the local Cawtermaster. In order to get the wood back, the Cawtermaster requests that proof that the wood was stolen. Oliver and his friends then work to convince Pip to confess to his crime to get the wood back. Once the wood has been reclaimed, King Tom obliges the party's request and uses his claws to carve the general shape of the instrument.
Once this is finished, the group must head to Hamelin to gain Marcassin's help in creating the holes and enchantments necessary for the Clarion to play. With Swaine's help, Marcassin provides the finishing touches and the Clarion is created once more. Traveling to the entrance of the Marshes, Esther is granted the Clarion and plays it to clear the Miasma and make way for the party to finally travel to Nevermore.
