This spell allows you to give the virtues shared using Take Heart to people who are in need of them. In that it offers a means to save the brokenhearted, this is one of the most important spells a wizard can learn. Needless to say, its use necessitates the utmost care and forethought.

Give Heart is an important everyday spell that allows the caster to give a piece of heart kept inside the locket to someone who has a broken heart. It is one of two spells Oliver gets from Old Father Oak after defeating the Guardian of the Woods in the Deep Dark Wood, the other spell being Take Heart. The rune assumes the appearance of an arrow pointing downward.

Utilities[]

As mentioned in the wizard's companion description, casting this spell allows for the sharing of a piece of heart obtained by casting Take Heart on a different individual towards someone that has had that piece of heart taken from them. Helping an individual with this problem correlates with one of the many errands available to undertake throughout the game. The following lists indicate which individuals have had certain pieces of heart taken from them, which errand it corresponds to and where they can be located:

Enthusiasm[]

  • In Ding Dong Dell, a man by the water wheel located south has lost all and any enthusiasm for his day-to-day life activities and must have it restored, which is the objective of Errand 001.
  • A woman standing near the Swift Solutions in Ding Dong Dell has suddenly lost her enthusiasm for housekeeping duties and has disregarded them altogether; the objective of Errand 002 involves restoring said enthusiasm for her.
  • After Golden Grove: For Errand 003, the renowned Sheikh of Spice can be found standing by the Swift Solutions in Al Mamoon; it is made immediately apparent that he has had his enthusiasm for the art of mixing spices taken from him, commencing the errand that can be completed once it is restored.
  • Mid Game: In Ding Dong Dell, a grimalkin girl standing near the palace with her friend has suddenly lost her willingness and love for attending school; this is a case of a broken heart, and Errand 015 involves restoring her enthusiasm so that her passion for school is found once more.
  • After Golden Grove: In Al Mamoon, a travelling merchant couple hailing from Ding Dong Dell can be talked to near the Hootique: Errand 033 can be initiated by speaking to them, revealing the husband has been robbed of his enthusiasm and doesn’t feel the vigour for the trade he once had; the errand is completed once his enthusiasm is restored.
    • This is the first time Oliver has had to help this troubled merchant couple – and it won’t be the last.

Kindness[]

  • To commence Errand 004, speak to the boy beside the west milk fountain in Al Mamoon, who is refusing to return the book he borrowed from his friend, and isn’t being kind about it – aptly, he is missing the kindness in his heart, and so it must be restored to complete the errand.
  • Early-Mid Game: In Errand 008, a shopkeeper east of the Cawtermaster in the Fairyground refuses to provide even the most basic courtesy of greeting his customers and makes a point believing that it is supposedly futile: as Drippy gives him an earful, he catches himself and realises that the unfirendly shopkeeper has been stripped of his kindness, meaning it must be restored.
  • Mid Game: A man standing by the black market entrance in Hamelin has suddenly lost all and any kindness for his ailing sister, to who he has spent his life finding a cure for, which must be restored as per the objective of Errand 010.
  • Mid Game: For Errand 019, a grimalkin girl in Ding Dong Dell is being uncharacteristically unkind to her friend; this can be rectified once obtaining some kindness to give and restore her with.
    • This is the same grimalkin girl that was swiped of her enthusiasm for attending school in Errand 015; the successive errand above is made available after completing it, although not until progressing further into the game’s main story.
  • The same merchant couple from Al Mamoon can be found in Castaway Cove. To complete Errand 034, the wife must have her kindness restored, which is made apparent from how she has been speaking to her husband.
    • This is the second time Oliver has had to help the merchant couple.

Courage[]

  • To complete Errand 005, the man standing near the entrance of the Cat’s Cradle in Al Mamoon must have his courage restored as, being an ice cream vendor, he has suddenly become afraid of venturing out to discover further means of refining his product.
  • A man in Castaway Cove has suddenly become afraid of the sea that he supposedly loves, despite recently acquiring his own boat: Errand 006 involves finding the courage to restore for him and once more brave the seas.
  • In Hamelin, a man northwest of main street has lost the courage to propose to his girlfriend: Errand 011 consists of restoring it for him.
  • Mid Game: In Ding Dong Dell, a palace guard has lost the will to fight monsters, an integral part of his job – this is a case of stolen courage, and Errand 016 requires restoring it for him.
  • Early-Mid Game: A familiar merchant couple in the Fairyground can be approached and spoken to: doing so will reveal that the husband has become struck with a fear of travelling, commencing Errand 036, which requires finding and restoring his courage for him.
    • This is the third time the merchant couple has been helped with a case of a broken heart.

Restraint[]

  • For Errand 007, a woman at the peddler in Castaway Cove can’t help buying more swimsuits than needed – her restraint must be restored to save her from bankruptcy.
  • In the Fairyground, a fairy is unable to resist making jokes at completely inappropriate times: Errand 009 consists of finding the restraint needed to restore his heart.
  • Mid Game: In Hamelin’s black market shop, an employee is having trouble staying awake and seems to be sleeping on the job – he is sorely lacking in restraint, and Errand 012 involves restoring it for him.
  • Mid-Late Game: A man in Yule has caved in to his dislike of the cold, holing himself up in his igloo – Errand 020 is completed once the restraint that has been taken from him is restored.
  • Mid Game: The merchant couple from before can be seen standing by the balcony looking over main street in Hamelin: this time, the wife has been spending their well-earned shop money on treats and delicacies, leading to commencing Errand 036, which is completed once she is restored of her missing restraint.
    • This is the fourth time that the travelling merchants have been helped.

Belief[]

  • The guard standing near the Cat’s Cradle in Hamelin is sceptical of every face that passes him – this is a case of lack in belief, and Errand 013 is completed when it is restored for him.
  • A man standing by the balcony southeast of Hamelin's main street has lost faith in his assistants and is unable to continue his research – his belief can be restored to him, which correlates with commencing and completing Errand 014.
  • A man who appears to hail from Ding Dong Dell and is standing near the Swift Solutions in Al Mamoon has been awash with worry, thinking his wife at home has moved on to another suitor – it is soon revealed he has been stripped of his belief, and Errand 017 involves restoring his faith in his beloved.
  • The man standing on the southeast walkway in Castaway Cove is setting out to move away from the village, since he has lost all and any trust in his people. Errand 018 can be completed once the belief that he has been bereaved of is restored to him.
  • A familiar merchant couple in Yule seem to have gotten themselves into trouble once more: the husband is unable to trust anyone, and Errand 037 will commence, being completed once his belief is restored.
    • This counts the fifth time this particular merchant couple has been helped with regarding troubles of the heart.

Confidence[]

  • A grimalkin in Ding Dong Dell and previous champion of the Great “Tug-o’-Tail” tournament has been struck by uncertainty as to whether he can succeed in the upcoming tournament, since he had won the last by just a “whisker”, and the previous champion must attend it. Errand 021 can be commenced, which involves restoring the confidence that had been unceremoniously taken from him.
  • In Errand 022, Con the Artist, who is residing in Al Mamoon’s Cat’s Cradle, is considering giving up his artistic career, as he doesn’t believe his impressive work is up to standard. A lack of confidence is apparent, and the errand can be completed after it is restored for him.
  • Completing Errand 023 involves restoring a fairy’s confidence in the Fairyground, who cannot muster taking the stage to perform his material.
  • A man by the southeast balcony in Hamelin’s main street has lost faith in his abilities and has thusly been put off of his research – this is a case of lost confidence, and Errand 024 consists of restoring it for him.
    • This is the same man who had his belief taken from him in Errand 014, who then had lost all and any trust in his cohorts, rather than his own abilities.
  • Late Game: In Perdida, the wife of the merchant couple is having a crisis in confidence – this will prompt completing Errand 038, which involves finding and restoring her confidence.
    • This would be the sixth time that these travelling merchants have had to be helped.

Love[]

  • In Al Mamoon, a man that has devoted his life to babanas has suddenly lost his love for it, commencing Errand 025, which involves restoring his love for the popular fruit.
  • For Errand 026, a woman with a basket on her head in Castaway Cove located north has suddenly lost feelings for her husband-to-be. This is a case of a broken heart, and her love must be restored.
  • Rather than a person, a dog in Hamelin has become heartbroken and is unable to behave or obey its owner’s commands, to her dismay. Errand 027 involves restoring its love.
  • In Yule, Errand 028 consists of helping a man who has become suddenly unloving towards his family, meaning such love must be restored for him.
  • The merchant couple have returned to Ding Dong Dell; unfortunately, a lover’s quarrel is at play, commencing Errand 039, which prompts restoring the love the husband has lost for his wife.
    • This counts as the seventh time the travelling merchants have been helped.

Ambition[]

  • In Al Mamoon, a woman in the northern part of town near the eastern milk fountain has lost her ambition to achieve her childhood dream of becoming a famous singer: Errand 029 involves finding and restoring said ambition for her.
  • In Castaway Cove, Errand 030 can be completed by restoring a man’s ambition for sailing the seas.
    • This is the same man that had his courage taken from him in Errand 006, which initially made him fearful of the seas he loves.
  • A researcher standing at the southeastern balcony in Hamelin’s main street is set on abandoning his life’s work altogether. To rectify this, his ambition must be restored, which becomes the objective of Errand 031.
    • This is the same researcher who had his belief and confidence taken from him in errands 014 and 024 respectively.
  • In Perdida, a boy has given up on his dreams of becoming the best llapaca farmer in the village – he is lacking some ambition, and completing Errand 032 requires that it is restored.
  • In Errand 040, the wife of the merchant couple standing by the entrance of Ding Dong Dell is having second thoughts about the whole venture of saving money to open their shop. It is apparent that she has been deprived of her ambition, and must have it restored.
    • This errand serves as the conclusion to the set of errands where one must repeatedly restore pieces of the heart to the travelling merchant couple across different places in the world, since ambition is the last heart piece that is discovered and available to give/take.
