Plot[]
Before the Events of Wrath of the White Witch:[]
Kublai was once the Commander of the Xanaduvian Airborne Division in the Xanaduvian Military, a role which he served dutifully under Queen Khulan. With his forces a part of Xanadu's military, the country was able to maintain a status of armed neutrality. Unfortunately, it was when Kublai was away from Xanadu that Shadar launched an attack which resulted in the hearts of its many citizens being broken to the point of them turning on each other and the country being destroyed. With the loss of his home, Kublai and his crew turned to piracy and began to terrorize the skies they once protected. Among the many treasures that he plundered was a special map which revealed the locations of three magical stones which gave the legendary Wand Mornstar its awesome power.
Retrieving the Map of the Stones:[]
Oliver and his party are told to seek Kublai out by Marcassin once he's been brought to his senses. It's revealed that while the Prince was brokenhearted he allowed Kublai to steal the Map of the Stones. With this information the party then travel to Skull Mountain, the location of Kublai's hideout. Upon trying to board the Iron Wyvern, Kublai and his crew reveal themselves and are initially hostile until he notices that Oliver has the incomplete Mornstar and allows them on board. After hearing the party out on their mission to confront Shadar, he then sets the Red Dragon on the trio to test whether or not they had the skills to actually go through with defeating the Dark Djinn. After a lengthy battle the party had proven their worth and he agrees to show the map to them. Upon inspection of the map, he deduces that they'll need one of his dragons Tengri in order to access the island that the map marks. Unfortunately, Kublai informs the others that Tengri has been struck with "the dreaded lurgy" and that the dragon can no longer fly. After traveling back to Oliver's world and meeting both Denny and Genghis (Tengri and Kublai's soulmates respectively) they discover that Denny is heartbroken and infected with a Nightmare. After defeating Denny's Nightmare, and healing his heart, upon their return Tengri is back to normal and Kublai allows Oliver to keep the dragon to serve as a method of transportation throughout the world.

Crisis in Perdida:[]
Once the party manages to defeat Khulan's Nightmare, Shadar appears and berates the former queen for allowing herself to lose the power of her Nightmare. While Khulan begs him for another, Kublai appears and hurls his sword at the shadow Shadar is using to communicate. With the Dark Djinn gone for now, Kublai offers his love for Khulan for Oliver to use in order to heal the woman he loves. Once her heart is restored, Alph reveals that Kublai was once a Commander in Xanadu's military before the country was destroyed. With no ranks or titles between them, the two reaffirm their love for each other and Khulan assists in restoring Mornstar to its full might.
The Wrath of the White Witch:[]
At some point before the White Witch cast her spell of Manna upon Ding Dong Dell, both Al Mamoon and Hamelin became devastated by Manna. Marcassin and Kublai both decided to put aside previous differences and work together to shelter refugees from the calamity aboard the ship. Unfortunately, while Oliver the party were away in the other world, another black crystal materialized aboard the Iron Wyvern and transformed the ship's crew into Wretches. Kublai was still aboard, and upon witnessing his crew turn upon him he resolved to run them through with his sword. Thankfully with Pea's help the crystal was destroyed and the crew was reverted to normal before Kublai could attack. After the three kingdoms are purified of Manna and the Ivory Tower appears in the sky, they all agree that they must declare war upon the White Witch. Coordinating with the three kingdoms, Kublai allows King Tom to take command of the Iron Wyvern's cannons to launch an attack on the flying fortress. Despite numerous bombs and shells hitting the structure the castle remains undamaged, and the attack is called off after Oliver and his gang enter the tower to confront the White Witch directly.
Trivia[]
- Oliver takes two pieces of Kublai's heart, in order to help both Denny and Khulan
- Kublai loves Khulan and previously they couldn't be together as he was a mere soldier compared to her status as royalty, but with the destruction of Xanadu and the loss of her title there is nothing keeping them apart now.
- Kublai and his crew hail from Xanadu, as soldiers in a special division under Khulan's command before the kingdom was destroyed by Shadar.
- Kublai appears to be named for Kublai Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, as evidenced by the name of his soulmate being Genghis, and the name of his love interesting being Khulan (in real life, Khulan was the name of Genghis Khan's wife.)
