Personality[]
Plot[]
Ever since he was a child he has always loved Nerea, and wanted to marry her. However, 300 years ago, Hydropolis was actually destroyed by a volcano eruption. The only reason it still exists is because Nerea was able to channel her magic in order to keep the city in the "past". If anything were to happen to the population count, such as a birth or death, the magic would fail, causing Hydropolis to be permanently destroyed, hence the strict laws. She also admits that it gives her a chance to spend "one final day" with her love, Leander. However, she falls victim to the taint and is thus swiftly corrupted. By the time Evan's party arrives, she is even more strict with her laws and is very demeaning to Leander. Doloran corrupts her and steals her kingsbond. Once Queen Nerea comes to her senses, Evan and Leander are forced to fight her kingmaker, Brineskimmer. Afterwards, the strict laws are soon lifted and the citizens of Hydropolis no longer live in fear of being arrested. She later signs the Declaration of Interdependence. Leander continues to serve as Junior Advisor to Evan, and helps in the defeat of Doloran and The Horned One.
Tale of the Timeless Tome DLC []
At this point Nerea's mind enters memory lane. She begins to imagine her and Leander's wedding, which leads Leander to being very confused about what is happening. And is very worried about everything being perfect. But she is very worried about her country and people, though Leander still has hope and from him Hibber Gibber the Hopeful is born. They come to terms that for them to achieve everlasting happiness Nerea has to stop casting magic. She hopes that her and her people can find a new home in Evermore to which Leander is hopeful.
Fate[]
It is unknown what became of him and his people, but during Ferdinand's memory lane section. One of the NPCS says that it is a shame what happened to Hydropolis and that he misses the merfolk a lot.
In Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, which takes place several centuries after Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, it is shown that Hydropolis had indeed been destroyed by the volcanic eruption and is now mostly underwater. The city is in ruins but the palace survives. However, life finds a way and the city is now inhibited by merfolk. Leander's ghost plays a significant part in the arc as the player party spots him and mistakes him for an agent of the Black Circle, the antagonists of the game, when they first enter the city, and ultimately becomes the Deus Ex Machina that saves the player party in the climax of the arc.
We also find out during the arc that Leander had chosen to be by Queen Nerea's side during Hydropolis' final moments, perishing with Nerea and Hydropolis as the city sunk.
