Sindbah (ゼルガス Zerugasu?, "Zelgas") is the captain of the Sea Cow, Queen Lowlah's ship. Oliver and his friends require Sindbah's help to travel to Autumnia.

Plot[]

According to an elderly woman in Castaway Cove, the woman's uncle is the best sailor the port had ever seen, and this uncle trained Sindbah as a sailor.

At some point, Sindbah was appointed as the captain of Queen Lowlah's ship, the Sea Cow. Sindbah and his crew dedicated their sailing careers to the glory of the Cowlipha and that of Al Mamoon. The Sea Cow was docked at Castaway Cove when not in use. Lowlah would comment that she normally had little use for her "floaty-woaty".

When Oliver, Drippy, and Esther needed transport to Autumnia to find one of the Great Sages, they asked Sindbah for passage on the Sea Cow. Sindbah was skeptical when Drippy informed him that Oliver was on a journey to save the world, and told them that he would allow them on his ship only if they returned with a letter of passage from Queen Lowlah.

Oliver succeeded in obtaining the letter by healing the Cowlipha's broken heart, but had the letter stolen from him by Swaine when he returned to Castaway Cove. Swaine tried to board the Sea Cow using the letter, but Sindbah knew Swaine as a thief and doubted that the letter really belonged to him, and refused to let Swaine on his ship. Oliver and his friends caught up with Swaine and demanded he give the letter back, but ended up having to fight Swaine's Nightmare in order to heal his broken heart and make friends with him.

Oliver, Drippy, Esther, and Swaine were then able to board the Sea Cow and set sail for Autumnia. Sindbah taught Oliver how to steer the ship. The trip was uneventful until Shadar descended on them to gauge Oliver's power in a battle. Shadar then used his powers to summon the Eye of the Storm, a legendary cyclone. Sindbah knew the legends of this storm and told the others that they would be doomed if the giant eye looked toward them. The storm overwhelmed the ship, which ended up crashing on the shores of Teeheeti. Sindbah told Oliver's party that the ship's repairs would take at least a week, and asked them to find food and supplies for that time.

After some time, Oliver and his friends returned from exploring the island. Sindbah was concerned, since the party had seemed to disappear in the forest, but Oliver assured him that they were all right, having spent the time in the Fairyground, a populated village. Sindbah noticed that Oliver still seemed troubled (this was because Oliver had chosen to leave Drippy behind on Teeheeti) but since the repairs were complete, they all boarded the Sea Cow and set sail for Autumnia again.

Personality[]

Sindbah takes great pride in his livelihood and his ship, the Sea Cow. He is responsible and protective of his ship. He loves sailing and shows great enthusiasm when directing his crew.

He is also a jovial man with a loud laugh. He can be stern, like when he suspects Swaine is lying to him, but is also friendly and forgiving. He clasps Swaine's shoulder and gives him a wide smile when the Sea Cow leaves the port in Castaway Cove.

Appearance[]

Sindbah is a tall, broad man with brown skin and dark teal eyes. He has dark hair in a long ponytail, with a puff of white hair above his forehead. He also has long sideburns and a small, pointed beard. He wears an eyepatch over his left eye, which has a vertical scar. He has a large tattoo of an anchor on his right arm and a patch of dark hair on his chest.

He wears loose yellow trousers with a green zig-zag pattern on the left side. A wide blue belt holds a yellow fur cape with purple leopard spots around his waist. His chest is bare. He wears a colorful armband on his left arm and a tooth necklace. His shoes are green and blue with a green strap around his ankles.

Trivia[]

  • Sindbah's name is likely derived from the real-world legend of Sinbad the Sailor, a fictional mariner from Baghdad who had a series of magical adventures. Sinbad was repeatedly shipwrecked, while Sindbah was shipwrecked only once, on Teeheeti.
