The Guardian of Worlds is the final secret boss in Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Defeating it will unlock the King of the World achievement/trophy.

Once you've successfully completed all of the Bounty Hunts related to Errand 131 (Bounty Hunts 116-130), go to The Conductor in the Forest Glade south of Ding Dong Dell. Talk to him to learn a little more about the alternate worlds, as well as the Guardian of Worlds.

After the initial fight, this boss can be fought multiple times, but with increased HP and its attacks are stronger. Fighting the Guardian many times is useful for gaining experience and at the same time obtain rare alchemy items such as Kaleidostones, Troll's Tears, Scrolls of Truth, etc.

Strategy[]

The Guardian will follow a character and will use physical hits to deal small damage. It uses two major attacks; Overload and The Great Divider. When you see Overload coming, back away and fire away a spell/trick or two, or defend. The Guardian will examine its spear for a moment before twirling and stabbing it into the ground to release a wave of lightning. This attack has a moderate range which takes up an area of a circle around the Guardian and deals moderate damage to any caught in the area..

The Great Divider, however, is not to be taken lightly, as it is the strongest attack in the entire game, and can COMPLETELY delete a party member's HP in a single hit. The Guardian descends and crouches slightly with its hands focused on the orbs within its chest, and after a few seconds it gathers energy from the rings behind its back to unleash a devastating beam of energy which spreads in a fan shape across a section of the arena. Because of the direction of this attack, this allows for an opportunity for attacking from behind (Though be wary if using melee attacks, as a familiar may get caught up in the blast if they venture too far into the Guardian's front and sides). When you see this attack coming, QUICKLY decide whom the boss is targeting, switch to that character, and quickly Defend (or Evade! if properly timed) to help minimize the damage. If it appears that more than one character is in the line of fire, then swiftly call an All-Out Defense. If right in front of the Guardian it's recommended to run behind it while the attack is still charging to completely avoid the attack altogether. The same can be said if at the very edges of the firing aspect and run away from where the Guardian is facing. (Though this is riskier as some may be fooled by how far the the beam will travel to the sides before it stops.) Make sure to take the time after the attack to heal the party, but also to avoid resurrecting a downed party member in case the Guardian is about to use Overload or The Great Divider once again while they're in range. This will prevent the Guardian from blasting them to zero HP just moments after the length of time it takes for your party members to regain consciousness.

Another thing to keep in mind is the use of tricks, spells, or other special moves which involve a special animation. If the Guardian is charging The Great Divider and someone uses a move with a special cutscene to interrupt the charging animation, (Burning Heart, Astra, Evenstar, Cut Loose, ect.) the Guardian will not only return to the exact moment in the preparation time it was cut off before firing off the laser, but also turn to face the party member that it was targeting previously. This could prove fatal, as there would be no time to issue an All-Out Defense, switch to the Defend command in time, or switch to a familiar that can better weather the immense amount of damage unless with very quick reactions. If possible, it's best to save whatever move is available until after the Guardian has fired in order to prevent possibly multiple party members from being deleted outright.

Whenever you're not avoiding The Great Divider, cast attacking buffs on your strongest familiars and launch your strongest tricks at the Guardian. For example, using a fully leveled-up Catastroceros, buffed with War Cry, then casting Bowlder can do 1400+ damage in one strike, followed by either Earsplitter or Sling Stone for another 500+ damage on top. As a tip, each member should have familiars with high attack stats as the primary damage dealers. Alternatively, Oliver can be used to deal some damage by casting Mornstar, Evenstar or Astra and allow The Guardian to follow him around as the rest of the party chips away. Since Oliver is a fast attacker, he can be used to counter The Guardian's physical hits and try to cancel the two major attacks (Though this may be risky).

If you're unable to keep up with the damage being done to you, then switch to Esther and let the other two take care of the damage while you focus on buffing and healing. High defense stat familiars, such as the Limberwood can be useful in healing the party and defend against The Great Divider.

As a warning, it is recommended that the party should be close to lvl 90 or above. Familiars should be fully leveled-up and have maximum growth.

QUICK NOTE

Just as a quick note, some very skilled players have beaten him before reaching level 65 with the party, but that is very hard to do and is not recommended for new or intermediate players.
